Klukas
Chelsea Klukas is a Seattle-based contemporary painter. Her paintings explore the quiet and mundane moments that collectively add up to a day, a week, a year, and a lifetime.
About
Klukas works primarily in oil, and her paintings often examine gendered labor, the pressures of feminine identity, and the invisible rituals that structure women and feminine-aligned people’s lives. She is drawn to the tension between societal expectation and personal agency in unobserved moments and private spaces.
Chelsea returned to a focused studio practice in 2022 after a multidisciplinary career in design and technology, during which she founded the illuminated fashion label Lumen Couture and co-founded MakeFashion, an international fashion-tech collective. She holds a Bachelor of Design from Alberta University of the Arts and an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Watkins College of Art. Her work has been exhibited at Seattle Art Museum events, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Art Gallery of Calgary.
